Screenshots are useful for capturing information on your device’s screen to share, save for later, or use as evidence. Whether you have a Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android device or Windows PC, there is likely a quick keyboard shortcut to snap pictures of your entire display or just a portion. In this guide, we provide an overview of how to take screenshot on popular devices and operating systems. We also suggest some apps that may help if your device does not have a native screenshot tool.
Mac Device
On Mac computers, you can take full or partial screenshot. To capture the entire screen, press Command-Shift-3 simultaneously. To select just a portion of the screen, press Command-Shift-4 instead. This will open a crosshair icon that lets you click and drag to select the area to capture. You can hold Shift, Option or Spacebar while dragging to adjust the selection. On modern Macs with the Touch Bar, you can also press Command-Shift-6 to bring up screenshot options. From here you can choose to record video of your screen instead of taking static images. Screenshot automatically save to your desktop by default.

iPhone or iPad Device
To take a screenshot on iPhone models with a Home button, press the Home button and Power button at the same time. For newer iPhones without a Home button, press the Side button and Volume Up simultaneously instead. On any iPad model, you can press the Home button and Top button concurrently. Android Device
Unlike iPhone and iPad, Android devices do not have a universal screenshot shortcut since there are many variations. On Android 9 and higher, press Power + Volume Down simultaneously. On Android 8 Oreo and below, press Power + Volume Down or press Power and tap Screenshot from the quick settings shade. For Android 10 apps, turn on a setting called ‘Screenshot toolbar’ to edit screenshot right after you take them. Some Android skins like Samsung and LG also let you swipe across the screen with your hand palm or fist to trigger a scrolling screenshot. Individual Android models may also have their own screenshot key combinations too.

Windows 7 and higher includes an app called Snipping Tool for taking custom screenshot. You can launch it, click New, and drag around the part you want. Snips save as images instantly.
